Analysis of mechanism of peculiar high strength and ductility of metastable beta-type titanium alloy with high oxygen content for structural biomaterials

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Ti-29Nb-13Ta-4.6Zr合金(TNTZ)およびTi-12Cr合金の実用化のために重要な圧縮疲労強度の改善のために両合金表面にキャビテーションピーニングを施した結果、圧縮疲労強度が改善されたが、特にTi-12Cr合金では圧縮疲労強度が著しく改善された、したがって、Ti-12Cr合金の脊柱固定器具用ロッドへの適用が期待される結果を得ることができた。これと同時に、この圧縮疲労強度の改善が残留応力の付与とともに強化相であるω相が加工誘起されたことによることも判明した。さらにTi-12Cr合金をベースに、侵入型ユビキタス軽元素である酸素(O)を添加し、合金組成を制御することでさらなる強化を試み、Ti-11Cr-0.2O合金を開発した。この合金では、T-12Cr合金に比べて、スプリングバックが小さく、かつ変形双昌誘起塑性による強化が可能であることを示した。
TNTZ合金では、酸素量を約0.7%まで増大させることによって引張り強度および伸びがともに増大することを前年度までに見出していたことに基付き、今年度は酸素量を約0.1から0.7%まで変化させて、その疲労強度を調査した。その結果、酸素量の増大とともに疲労強度が増大し、約0.7%Oでは生体用として汎用されているTi-6Al-4V ELI合金の疲労強度に匹敵するようになることを見出した。この場合、いずれの酸素量でも加工誘起マルテンサイトが生成し、酸素量の増大とともに加工誘起マルテンサイトが微細化することおよび転移密度が減少することを明らかとした。加工誘起マルテンサイトの微細化も疲労強度の増大に寄与していると推定される。
