| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
本事業では、今まで研究がなされなかったミャンマーおよびインドネシアに焦点を当てて、１） ピロリ菌によって引き起こされる胃癌発生リスクの予測、２） アジア諸民族の移動経路の解明という２つの命題に取り組むことを目標とした。本目的のために、アジア各国での共同研究を確立して、サンプル採取および解析を行なう計画を立てた。昨年度までに、当初の予定を大きく超えて、インドネシア（スラウェシ島のマナド近郊およびジャワ島のスラバヤ、パプア）、ベトナム北部ラオカイ近郊の村、ベトナム中央高原のダクラック地域、ネパールのカトマンズで、タイとミャンマー国境地域、モンゴル（ウランバートル）でのピロリ菌検査を行うなど、精力的な疫学調査を遂行することに成功した。
本年度は、さらにインドネシア（スマトラ島のメダン、ボルネオ島のポンティアナック、スラウェシ島のマカッサル）、ブータン（中部～やや東部に位置するトンサ、ブムタン）、バングラディシュ（ダッカ）、カンボジア（プノンペン）で、内視鏡検査を行い、ピロリ菌を得ることができた。またラオスやフィリピン、内蒙古にも出かけ、共同研究を行える環境を整えることができた。
現在、今年度に採取した検体のDNA抽出などを行っているところであり、昨年度以前の検体については、疫学調査の結果をまとめた論文も多数発表できている。
