Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study was to identify characteristics of the skating motion of speed skaters during a straight phase through the use of a cross-sectional investigation of age-related development. It was found that the level of power exertion in the lower limbs of both men and women speed skaters increased gradually as a result of physical growth and development. In relation to the technical factors, there were age-related differences in regard to the angle of the thigh, which greatly affects the level of explosive power exerted by the hip and knee joints during the push-off from the ice. It would be difficult for skaters in elementary school to skate in the lower position while keeping their thigh in a horizontal position. In addition, it was found that skaters enhance their ability to assume this position as a result of physical growth and development.
