The purpose of this project is to examine contemporary Hollywood cinema in relation to neoliberalism and global capitalism. It specifically focuses on audio-visual spectacle and shock effect, and tries to answer the following questions. How are they created for what purpose? Is it possible to see any connection between cinematic shock effect and neoliberal “shock doctrine”? What can they tell us about the state of media environment or media ecology in the age of global capitalism?
