Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research project aimed to construct "a middle-range theory" regarding the political roles of monarchies in Southeast Asia, by comparing changing political roles of monarchies in Thailand, Cambodia, and Malaysia. It revealed that, despite various differences in the socioeconomic background, the monarchies in these three countries had been facing similar obstacles, and there had been close interactions among them especially in the 1950s and 60s, though many of those interactions were intentionally kept low profile.
