This research has attempted to explain theoretically a possibility that a politician may take an extreme policies before an election. He or she may do it to signal preferences to the electorate with the aim of affecting the outcome of the election. An intriguing result is that a policy bias can be created in an extreme direction when the two candidates'possible ideology preferences overlap.
