Outline of Final Research Achievements

Contemporary Japanese society moved towards the nuclear family with a high proportion of elderly and a low number of childbirths , where the concept of " ie(家) system weakened . Nuclear families weakened a function as a collective unit and the basis of Japanese society shifted from collective consciousness to individual consciousness .The changes in funerals and the rituals of graves in a society that moved its fundamental unit to the individual . In particular , I focus on the drastic changes in the rites of the deceased after the 1990s . It analyzed the dynamism from the fact-finding of the " 桜葬 " (Sakura-so)graveyard applicant which did not need a successor . It became difficult to decide " worship successor " by member of the family from the result of the investigation , and a tendency to entrust to the third party except the family was highlighted .
