Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose of this research is to examine how the idea and discourse of “the national” have been deployed in screening and ordering diverse lives and bodies in post-3.11 Japan. The research has revealed the way in which a “national” crisis has led to a “normalization” of a social discourse of screening and ordering by giving rise to blatant prioritization of certain groups of bodies. Through a critical examination of the problems and limitations of both queer theories and disability theories, the research has also demonstrated a crucial interdisciplinary approach to enabling and increasing the survivability of diverse lives and bodies.
