Research Abstract |
Extinction characteristics of pool flame by droping the carbon dioxide hydrate powder were experimentally investigated. For comparison, ice and dry ice are used instead of carbon dioxide hydrate. Fuels of pool flame are classified into three : fuel with boiling point lower than water, methanol and ethanol, fuel with equivalent boiling point with water, 1-plopanol, and fuel with boiling point higher than water, 1-hexanol. The minimum mass of extinction, which is defined as a minimum mass to be able to extinguish the flame, of hydrate is more than that of dry ice for fuels with lower boiling point, while it is less for fuels with equivalent and higher boiling point of water. This indicates that the evapolation of water is enhanced in the higher boiling point fuels with much cooling of fuels, which results in the less minimum mass of extintinction.
