Outline of Final Research Achievements

I have examined the sadhana meditation in "Rituals of Preparatory Performance (purvasevavidhi)" of the Guhyasamajamandalavidhi-Sardhatrisatika (SaTri). In the course of my study, I felt the need for a more inclusive investigation of this aspect and I now aim to examine the other rituals of the text. The SaTri is one of the oldest "Mandlavidhi" in Indian Buddhist Tantrism. SaTri was compiled by Dipankarabhadra, who is highly esteemed as one of the great four disciples of Buddhasrijnana (alias Jnanapada). Jnanapada founded the Jnanapada School (Ye ses shabs lugs) in the Guhyasamaja Cycle. SaTri is one of the works of the Guhyasamaja, but it had a great influence on later "Mandalavidhi" exceeding beyond its specific tradition, as Abhayakaragupta's Vajravali. I intend to study the SaTri as a text influenced by later commentaries and interpretations and present its original import in relation to the religious and philosophical background of the period in which it was composed.
