Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Using human high-field MR system, I acquired dynamic images of mandibular movement and various kinds of MR images of temporomandibular joints and masticatory muscles. In addition, I developed a new software which could analyze mandibular movement and extract motion trajectories using MR images automatically. As a result, the measurements of mandibular movement suggested that disorder in the articular disk was related to displacement in the LR direction. Also, subjects with large dislocation of the articular disk had a large difference in the masseter muscle between the right and left sides. Then, the automatic measurement technique had very good precision. This technique gives precise information that can facilitate diagnosis of temporomandibular joint disorder and mandibular movement disturbance. Furthermore, I performed the biomechanical analysis by FEM. As a result, it was revealed that the subjects with TMJ disorders had the element that was high in stress.
