本研究は、視覚系のメカニズムを説明する計算モデルを実験的知見に基づいて構築する研究であり、学術的に重要かつ意義が高い。知覚の仕組みを生物学的制約を考慮せずに機械学習の立場から取り扱おうとする研究が多いなかで、本研究は心理・生理学的知見に基づいた視覚メカニズムのモデルを構築しようとする正統的な取り組みである。適切な課題設定と合理的解決手段による堅実な計画になっており、目標の達成が十分に期待できる。
