Outline of Final Research Achievements

In order to implement and promote successful data-driven learning (DDL) in multilingual foreign language classrooms, we have conducted a series of studies and developed several tools and materials for DDL. Through these studies, we have been able to identify specific L2 English grammar areas with which Japanese university students have the most difficulty and have created an original corpus to use as a remedial learning tool in L2 classrooms to target those areas. The tool, called the Sentence Corpus of Remedial English (SCoRE) (http://www.score-corpus.org/), is free, web-based, multi-lingual, and open-platform, and contains additional corpus tools and DDL materials. A series of studies have been undertaken to evaluate the efficacy of these various tools; findings show gains in grammar proficiency as well as favorable feedback from users. We hope they may have a broader use for EFL students of other languages.
