Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this research was to study the foundation for compiling a new archaic Korean words dictionary that is interpreted in Japanese and contains historical information of linguistic exchange between Japan and Korea. My major research accomplishments for the past three years supported by JSPS are as follows: 1) publication of academic studies about basic body and clothing related vocabulary selected from literature of the Middle Korean period, 15th to 16th century, along with example sentences of the first appearance and interpretation in Japanese, 2) compilation of a bilingual index of Cheophaishineo, a colloquial material in Modern Korean, 3) discovery of new linguistic materials related to the research.Through the research, I confirmed the foundation and identified problems with respect to the dictionary compilation. In addition, I gave a lecture on linguistic similarities between Japanese and Korean at an international conference in Seoul, which was based on this research.
