| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research attempts to account for the profile of Japanese inward foreign direct investment (FDI) and then argues its impacts on host regional economy, taking an example of Kyushu. The entry of transnational corporations (TNC) into Kyushu have been increasing and the number of TNC affiliates reached to five hundred in 2015. The FDI's impacts are examined in major four areas such as capital injection, local firm stimulation, knowledge diffusion and employment creation, however, they seem to be limited so far in Kyushu. The Japanese government has introduced a new comprehensive policy for regional development since 2014 including various measures to increase inward FDI. Therefore, it would be important for the local governments to introduce 'high-road' policies including skill development of local workers.
