Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The aim of this study is to discuss the relationship between education policies and politics through the analyzing what kind of role politics and politicians played in the policy-making process. Diet members with a special interest in education (bunkyozoku) had exerted their influence on education policies over a long period of time. But as the process came to depend on power balance between the government and the ruling party (LDP), in 2000s, which the Cabinet Office took initiative, the members lost their power. And we point out that the members had to compromise with another ruling party on education policies. In addition this study emphasizes the importance of paying attention to the process of the opposite parties from the perspective of competition between ruling party and top opposite one, of conflict among some groups in leading opposition party.
