Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In a chemical pulping process, where lignin is removed from wood and pulp for paper making is prepared, oxygen bleaching plays an important role owing to the environmental benign and economy. It is a big problem, however, that polysaccharides are severely degraded in oxygen bleaching. In this study, the representative of this study primarily proposed a novel bleaching method consisting of successive treatments of manganese-added alkaline oxygen and acidic manganese. The representative was successful to show that the degradation of polysaccharides can be suppressed and lignin can selectively be removed in the novel bleaching method.
