Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The role of androgen including testosterone and DHEA-S has not been clarified in women during the menopausal transition. Androgen such as free testosterone and bioavailable testosterone might be involved in changes in systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and circulating levels of triglyceride and HDL-C in women during the menopausal transition. Changes in adiponectin and leptin during the menopausal transition showed unique patterns, and testosterone was associated with these patterns of adiponectin and leptin. It has been suggested that decreases in DHEA-S levels in women who received oral and transdermal hormone replacement therapy for menopausal symptoms were involved in feedback mechanism of hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal gland. Further studies for involvement of estrogen in hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal with hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian axis.
