Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Klein群の変形空間がノンコンパクトな場合,Bestivna-Paulinの同変Gromov収束の理論により,発散列は部分列を取ると,R-tree上への基本群の等長変換に収束する.R-treeへの作用が,幾何学的に実現できるかという問題に取り組んだ.曲面群の時はSkoraの定理により,このような作用は全てmeasured laminationとして幾何学的に実現できることがわかっている.境界付きのコンパクト3次元多様体の基本群が同様の性質を持つかというのは自然な問題である.特に内部が双曲構造を持つ場合,上の変形空間の発散列の問題と関連して自然に起こる問題である.
今回の研究では,3次元の場合は幾何学的実現は必ずしも可能でないことを実例をもって示し,さらに幾何的実現ができない状況を完全に決定することに成功した.特にThurstonが1980年代に出した,hyperbolic structuresのrelative compactnessに関する定理は修正の必要があることがわかった.この定理はThurstonのHaken manifoldsの一意化定理の本質的なステップであるが,修正した定理でも一意化定理の証明には問題ないこともわかった.
この結果は,Singapore国立大学で開催された研究集会の招待講演で"Geometric realisation for degenerations of hyperbolic structures"という題名で発表した.さらに,Handbook of group actionsにおける論考"Degeneration of marked hyperbolic structures in dimensions 2 and 3"にて内容の紹介をした.さらに独立した論文を準備中である.
