Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The aim of study included 85 pregnant woman who referred to Tokushima University Hospital was to investigate the relationship between periodontal status of pregnant women and low birth weight. The result showed that "periodontal pocket depth >=4 mm)" and "complaints or discomfort related to the oral cavity" of pregnant women were significantly associated with low birth weight babies. The cross-sectional study was performed for 250 pregnant women who received a free oral examination supported by N city in Tokushima prefecture. It revealed that there were associations between regular oral health check-up and good oral health status or good health habits during pregnancy. In addition, the survey of questionnaires were performed against 453 subjects regarding the pre-mother class conducted by Tokushima dental association. The results showed that this program might be cause a proper behavioral change for participants of pre-mother class.
