Outline of Final Research Achievements

We clarified resting and resting situations and changes in sleepiness and fatigue for 12-hour night shift workers in nurses.Twelve-hour nightshift workers took naps at a higher frequency and had longer nap times before night shifts than 16-hour nightshift workers.Twelve-hour nightshift workers endure greater physical strain during day shifts compared with that during long day shifts. Furthermore, in long day shifts, sleepiness and fatigue increased after 17:00. In night shifts, sleepiness, fatigue, and discomfort increased during rest periods. Therefore, due care should be provided for a decreased arousal level after rest periods.
As stated above, we think that it is important to reduce fatigue after 17:00 on long day shift, in order to smoothly shift from 16-night shift to 12-hour night shift work.
