Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The chemical vapor deposition process under intense laser field can produce ceramic coatings with a significant deposition rate and oriented growth. I have demonstrated phase and orientation control of α-Al2O3 coatings by changing deposition conditions, and nearly perfect c-axis-orientation of α-Al2O3 coatings has been reported. The developed method was used for the preparation of various structural and functional ceramic coatings: feather-like structure in b-axis-oriented β-Al2TiO5 coatings, superstructure formation in c-axis-oriented oriented Ba β-alumina layers, high-speed epitaxial growth of b-axis-oriented BaTi2O5 ferroelectric coatings, c-axis-oriented YBa2Cu3O7-δ superconducting coatings, and 2H-polytype formation in a-axis-oriented SiC coatings. Relationships among orientation, microstructure and properties were discussed through an electron microscopy.
