Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study is on making a revised edition of Tenrei bansho myogi(篆隷萬象名義) edited by Kobodaishi kukai(弘法大師空海) which is the oldest Kanji dictionary still extant in Japan.Tenrei bansho myogi is a dictionary which is basically composed of a manuscript copy of Shuowenjiezi(説文解字) and Yupian(玉篇) dating from the Tang dynasty. There are lots of different characters such as Xiaozhuan(小篆), Guwen(古文), Zhouwen(籀文) and simplified Chinese characteres(俗字) in it,but the Kozanji(高山寺) version, the only one of its kind extant and also a national treasure in Japan,is full of wrong letters so that we can't use that version. Therefore, this study tried to make a revised edition by comparing with Yupian,Kaichengshijing(開成石経) and so on to revive that oldest dictionary of Japan in our time.
