Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study attempted to examine Japanese non-pregnant women's perceptions and attitudes toward prenatal testing. An online self-report questionnaire was administered to non-pregnant women aged 20-49 years, recruited from a Japanese research company in May 2014.
The participants were comprised of 1,576 women. We asked the participants about their decision-making regarding undergoing prenatal testing if they were hypothetically to become pregnant. Of the 1,576 respondents, 1,229 (78%) women would be able to decide whether to undergo prenatal testing (either in the affirmative or negative), and 347 (22%) would not be able to decide whether to undergo testing. Over 90% of women need the following information about prenatal testing: cost, merit, demerit, fetal abnormalities which can be diagnosed, and the legal time limit for termination of pregnancy.
