Scientific Significance and Expected Research Achievements

本研究は、霊長類がどのように匂いを感じて脳内で情報として処理されているのか、ヒトとサルを用いて神経基盤を解明することを目的としている。生物学的、かつ医学的に重要な課題で学術的意義が大きいと評価できる。特にげっ歯類を対象にした先行研究をベースに、多様な匂い物質と受容体に注目した研究方法は合理的で、ヒトの嗅覚のメカニズムの解明が期待される。
