Outline of Annual Research Achievements

平成27年度は、KAGRAの試験運転に向けた神岡での準備を進めた。まず最初に、レーザーをはじめとする入射光学系の調整およびその周波数安定化システムの構築が行われた。特に、懸架されたミラーで構成されるモードクリーナーの設置が完了し、これを用いたレーザーの周波数安定化に成功した。これは大出力レーザーの周波数安定化実験を兼ねたものとなった。次に、折り返し鏡とその防振装置を真空容器内に設置した。
また、レーザー干渉計の制御のための電子回路類と制御用のコンピュータシステムを設置・調整した。ここにおいて特筆すべき点は、ガーディアンと呼ばれる統合ソフトウェアの組込をLIGO研究者と共同して行ない、それが見事に稼働したことである。これにより、レーザー干渉計の運転を非常にスムーズにエレガントに実行することが可能となった。
ここまでの一通りの設置・調整が済んだところで、レーザー光を干渉計本体に導入し、少しずつ調整をしながら基線長3kmのマイケルソン干渉計全体をシステムとして稼働させ、2016年3月25日から3月31日まで試験運転を実行した。この際には干渉計の運転のみならず、データを取得して、データ解析まで全体を通してシステムとして稼働させることに成功した。
以上の当初研究計画に加え、平成27年11月から調整金等交付分により超精密干渉計制御システムの構築に着手した。具体的には干渉計制御回路を製作し、それに対応する光学系の整備を行った。試験運転で得られた結果については、現在、まとめているところである。

Reason

平成27年度に達成すべき目標であったKAGRAの試験運転に向けた準備を着々と進め、それを実行できたということで、本研究はおおむね順調に進展していると言える。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

重力波望遠鏡KAGRAの共同研究者は既に国内外合わせて200人を超えているが、今後もKAGRAの研究に参加する研究者を増やしていくことが大切である。これについては、例えば、神岡に近い富山大学の研究者に分担者として本研究に参加してもらうなどの努力をしてきた。それによって幅広い研究組織を構築することができ、新たな感度向上方法の発案などが期待できる。
本研究では最先端研究基盤事業及び概算要求による施設整備費により整備された装置を出発点とし、その迅速な運転開始及び標準量子限界をも超える高度化のための先進的技術を開発することを目指している。それらの技術を備え付けた最先端装置のコミッショニングとその安定動作を迅速に行い、できるだけ早い時期に重力波の観測を開始することが目標である。
この目標を本研究期間内に確実に達成するため、以下のようなマイル・ストーンを設定している。まず、常温の鏡を用いたシンプルな干渉計を動作させ、3kmという我々にとって未経験の大型干渉計動作に関する経験を得る。これについては平成27年度中に達成することができた。この経験をもとにシステムに改良を加え、この巨大なレーザー干渉計に、光のリサイクリングシステム、干渉信号中のノイズ除去を加え、更には鏡も極低温で動作させて、標準量子限界を超える最終目標感度で重力波観測を行うことを目標とする。これらの技術を盛り込んだ干渉計の動作を平成29年度中に達成したいと考えている。
