| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
旧英領インド現ミャンマー領、バングラデシュ領地域、フィリピンの20世紀前半期のデータ、および中国の戦中期、日本の関東地方の日降水量等の紙媒体データのデジタル化を進めた。戦時中の陸軍気象部による気象観測の実態を解明し、著作を刊行した。すでに得られたデータを用い、インド東北部チェラプンジにおける100年以上の日雨量データを解析し、インドでのモンスーントラフの弱化時に降雨が多くなることがわかった。また西太平洋域の1897～2013年の気象観測データにより、PJパターンと呼ばれる熱帯と中緯度間のテレコネクションの長期変動を解明し、東アジアの夏の気温、東南アジアの雨季の雨量、沖縄や台湾を通過する台風数、日本のコメの収穫量、長江の流量等との相関関係が明瞭な時期と不明瞭な時期とが数十年周期で繰り返し訪れていることを明らかにした。日本の関東地方の観測開始以来1925年までの区内観測所降水量観測原簿を収集、コピーを作成した。茨城県についてはデジタル化も完了した。1944-1946年の高層気象台高層気象観測原簿のデジタル化を実施した。
戦後期については、インド北東部メガラヤ高原の降水の季節内変動と日変化の関係やバングラデシュの降雨特性の長期変化を解明したほか、シビアーウェザーの発生状況に関するデータベースを作成した。、インドシナ半島の1960年台以降での夏季及び晩秋季の雨季入り・雨季明けの季節変化過程と年々変動を解析し、近年秋の雨季の終了が顕著に遅れていることを解明した。1951～2013年のフィリピンにおける降水量の季節進行パターンを分類し、1990年代以降に雨季入り・雨季明けが遅くなるパターン、明瞭な乾季がないパターン、雨季が短いパターンが頻繁に出現していることを明らかした。東部インドネシアの、1970年代以降における降水極端現象とENSOとの関連等について明らかにした。

Reason
インド気象局より旧英領インド、現バングラデシュ領およびミャンマー領における地点降水量の冊子体データの写真撮影及びデジタル化に関する許可を得ることができ、現ミャンマー領データについては、データ入力を完了、約15年分に関しては、元データによるチェックも完了した。また現バングラデシュ領データについては、データ入力をおおむね50％完了し、残りは現在Webより入手可能な画像データの画質が劣悪で、データ入力ができなかったところ、データ入力が可能な画質での写真撮影を完了し、デジタル化の準備が完了した。フィリピンのデータについても順調にデジタル化が進んでおり、得られたデータでの成果も出始め、世界最大の降雨をもつチェラプンジにおける100年以上の期間における降雨変動や、西太平洋におけるPJパターンと呼ばれるテレコネクションパターンの117年間の長期変動を解明した。中国については旧日本領時代のデータのデジタル化は順調に進んでいる。日本の関東地方のデータについても1926年以前の区内観測所データのデジタル化を進めた。デジタル化が完了したデータを使用しての研究成果も出始めた。また既存データを用いたアジアモンスーンの長期変化や季節変化、バングラデシュやインドネシア東部、日本での降水特性の長期変化についても研究成果が出ている。海外との共同研究についても、インド、ネパール、バングラデシュ、ベトナム、フィリピン、中国、アメリカ合衆国などとの国際共同研究も順調に進めることができている。

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
平成28年度中に旧英領インド、現バングラデシュ領およびミャンマー領の冊子体データのデジタル化を完了させ、順次データのクオリティーチェックを進める。第二次世界大戦中の中国、東南アジア等でのデータの発見にさらに努める。南アジアの夏季降水量の年々変動の実態とその変遷を、特に熱帯と中緯度との関係に注目し、長期の降水量データと客観解析データを用いて調査する。また、長期の日降水量データを用いて夏季降水量の季節内変動の年々変動とその長期変化も調査する。さらにはシビアーウェザーの出現状況についても調査を進める。すでに入手した19世紀フィリピン気象資料の電子化を進め、マニラの日降水量と気圧のデータセットを完成させる。19世紀の日降水量データに関するクオリティーチェックやメタデータ収集を行い、19世紀後半以降のマニラにおける雨季入り・明け、降水強度に関する解析を行い、大気循環場やSSTデータとの関係に関する分析を行う。さらに日本を中心とした地域での降水特性の長期変化についても解析を進め、アジアモンスーンの長期変動との関係解明を行っていく。国際的にはこれまでの共同研究実績を活かして国際共同研究を引き続き推進していくほか、ACREとの連携を強化し、未入手・未発見の戦中期・戦前期のデータの入手可能性を探っていく。
