Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、高温高圧下での鉄-軽元素系合金の物性を測定し、惑星探査データとの比較から、水星や火星といった地球型惑星の中心核組成の解明を第一目標としている。2015-2016年度は、研究分担者（浦川博士・肥後博士・坂巻博士・鎌田博士）と協力して、測定の技術開発を行いながら鉄合金の高圧物性について下記の研究結果を得た。
・液体物性に関しては、SPring-8において本課題で導入した測定系を用い超音波法とＸ線吸収法により、鉄合金融体の音速と密度の圧力・温度依存を得た。2015年度はFe-Ni-Sと、Fe-Ni-C,Fe-Ni,Fe-C系について測定し、この結果Fe-C, Fe-Ni-Cは音速の温度依存性が特に大きくなることを見いだした。2016年度はFe-Ni-S,Si,C融体について、音速・密度測定を実施した。
・固体物性に関しては、高圧プレス+超音波法、レーザー加熱式ダイアモンドアンビルセル(DAC)+X線非弾性散乱を用い、音速と密度を測定した。2015年度は84 GPa、1800 Kまでのhcp-Fe-Si合金の測定に成功し、Fe構造中にSiが入ることで音速が遅くなることを明らかにした。2016年度はFe3S固体の音速測定を開始した。
・また物性測定の圧力拡張を目指し、外熱式DACの高温発生技術とＸ線吸収密度測定法の開発を実施した。これより6.5 GPaまでの金属インジウムの固体と液体の密度を測定することに成功した。
・水星探査シンポジウム(ベルリン）で本成果を発表し、惑星科学者との研究交流を行った。
・地球深部の最新の描像についてまとめた著書（国内外の23名の著者により分担執筆）を、筆頭編者として取りまとめ、出版することとなった。("Deep Earth: Physics and chemistry of the lower mantle and core, 2016年出版）

Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

2015年度は、本課題で導入したＸ線吸収法と超音波法による密度・音速同時測定システムを用いて、鉄合金液体の高圧下での弾性特性測定を本格的に開始した。これにより研究概要に述べたとおりFe-Ni, Fe-Ni-C融体の弾性について明らかにすることができた。また外熱式DACについては、2015年度当初は国内で自作予定であったが本研究の仕様を満たす高温発生用DACが海外業者で見つかったため、その方式を採用した。そのDACは海外受注生産で納期が2015年度末となったため、その装置を用いた実験開始が遅れる結果となった。
しかしその後、2016年度において外熱式DACの高温発生とＸ線吸収密度測定法の技術開発を実施し、6.5 GPaまでの金属液体の密度を測定することに成功した。このため、2016年度には遅れを取り戻して順調な成果を得ることができている。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後の推進方策としては、圧力を拡張した条件で音速・密度・粘性測定を行い、測定結果に基づいたモデリングから地球型惑星核の組成とダイナミクスを解明していく。得られた結果については国際学術雑誌に順次投稿し、発表する。
・外熱式DACを用いた密度および粘性測定について、圧力を拡張した条件で測定を実施する。
・鉄合金液体の物性に関しては、これまでに得ているFe-Ni-SとFe-Ni-Si,Fe-Ni-C融体の弾性結果と観測データとの比較を行い、水星、火星、月の溶融核について組成を推定する。同時に鉄-軽元素系相関係の熱力学的解析から10GPa以上における融体の密度に対する制約を検討する。
・鉄合金固体の物性に関しては、Fe-Si合金固体の音速・密度測定を20GPaまでの圧力条件で行う。またFe3S固体の音速測定についても80 GPa程度まで圧力領域を拡張して測定する。以上の測定によりこれらの物性に対する温度と圧力の効果を調べる。
・上記の鉄合金の液体と固体の弾性データと最新の衛星観測データを用いて、水星・火星・月の組成と内部構造モデリングを行う。この内部構造に基づき、高圧下での鉄合金の粘性測定データを用いて、惑星核内部における熱輸送・ダイナミクスを考察する。
