Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究の目的は、銀河系円盤にある強い減光を受けた天体の詳細な観測から銀河系の構造と進化を探るための基礎として、赤外線高分散分光の手法を確立することと、実際に円盤を探るトレーサとなる脈動変光星を見つけることである。
特に、あまり応用が進んでいない0.95~1.30マイクロメートルでの高分散分光を可能にしたWINERED分光器を用いた観測とそのデータ解析の基本的な手法・情報を整備することが大きな目標の一つである。我々は平成26年度にWINEREDをチリにあるラ・シヤ天文台(欧州南天天文台)に移設し、口径3.58メートルのNTT望遠鏡に取り付けて試験観測を行った。その後、平成27年度(本研究の最終年度)には、7月、12月、3月にそれぞれ4夜、5夜、5夜の観測をWINERED分光器とNTT望遠鏡の組み合わせで行い、特に12月には本研究に関わる恒星の物理量を決める基本的な手法を確立するためのデータを得た(現在、論文準備中)。
一方、昨年度までに得ていたWINEREDスペクトルを用いて、恒星温度の測定方法の確立(Taniguchi et al. 2018, MNRAS, 473, 4993)やミラ型変光星の化学組成測定(D'Orazi et al. 2018, ApJL, 855, L9)などについての論文を発表した。
また、トレーサとなる脈動変光星の探査の一環として、表面に炭素を多く持つ星を同定する手法を用いた研究を行い、すすに覆われたミラ型変光星を銀河系中心部に世界で初めて発見した(Matsunaga et al. 2017, MNRAS, 469, 4949)。数百個の恒星が集まる銀河系バルジであるが、酸素よりも炭素が多い星はほとんど存在しないと考えられていた。今回の結果は、その中にも他と異なる少数派の星のグループが存在することの新しい証拠である。高分散分光観測などを行い、そられの天体の詳しい性質を探ることで、銀河系の進化について新たなヒントが得られると期待される。
