Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study reveals how late 19th century westerners recognized for the traditional costumes of Japanese and Korean. For this, journals of Japan and Korea travelers, and western newspapers were researched. By this work, Japanese and Korean men's costumes were focusing on ritualistic qualities than usefulness is revealed. Also, it is recognized that the Japanese Kimonos show the most beauties with embroidery and Obi, and the Korean costumes represent the traditionalism by Hyoong-Bae (Official Emblematic Square Badges) and hat. The western recognized Japanese and Korean costume as like western's religious costume. In addition, this work disclosed Japanese and Korean costumes' pros and cons, costumes’color comparison from the westerners' perspective.
