Outline of Final Research Achievements |
I disclose the background for the establishment of the Korean Art Exhibitions, and analyzed how did the western ‘art’ concept influence Korean society and Korean art world during the Japanese colonial period. By analyzing the background for the establishment of the ‘crafts section’ and the argument on ‘Folk’, I clarified the influence of the actions by Asakawa Noritaka and Yanagi Muneyoshi. Asakawa and Yanagi found the National Folk Museum of Korea in the 1920s, and by that, a ‘crafts fad’ was arising in both, Japan and Korea. I elucidated that the ‘Folk’ concept that came from Germany during the late 19th century, was initiatively brought to Korea by young Koreans who studied modern western culture in Japan through the Japanese literary world.Particularly through their artistic activities at the Korean Art Exhibitions, these young Koreans spread their message, to be aware of and respect their Korean ‘personality’ and ‘identity’, to the Koran society and people.
