Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study aims to investigate how the Vernacular Movement influenced the reformation of traditional Waka and establishment of early modern Tanka. In the context of the Vernacular Movement, particles such as 'Tsu', 'Nu', 'Tari', 'Ri', 'Ki', and 'Keri' had gradually disappeared from the prose style. However, they remained in Tanka, which left them as it modernazed itself. It is due to the fact that an auxiliary 'Ta', which was widespread as an end marker in descriptive texts, did not match Tanka with lively utterances from the first-person point of view. For this reason, early modern Tanka enriched temporal expressions with verbs of 'Te-iru' and end-forms.Verses in Takuboku's ”Ichiaku no suna” are regarded as the representatives.
