Outline of Annual Research Achievements

First, we continued with our work on literary geography. Hones focused particularly on several themes, including literary geographies of testimony, ‘absence’ in literary geography, and the significance of sound and rhythm in literary space-time. Carter-White worked on a monograph project with Professor Claudio Minca (Wageningen University) and Professor Paolo Giaccaria (University of Turin), which will draw heavily on survivor and perpetrator testimonies in investigating the geographies of Nazism and the Holocaust. Yaguchi continued his work on testimony and museum representations.

Second, there were several international collaborations. Hones continued to manage and edit the journal Literary Geographies while also organizing a conference on literary geography held at Emmanuel College, Cambridge in March 2017. Carter-White gave a presentation on survivor testimony in a major session at the 2016 RGS-IBG Annual International Conference in London. Yaguchi continued his work as the associate editor of American Quarterly. We also invited Professor Marcus Doel of the University of Swansea in January 2017 and had a symposium based around his work on literary geographies and the anthropocene.
