Yuzo Yamada and Kosugi Sei were engaged in the following respective fields in the academic years from 2014 to 2017: (1)The modernists' approach to the ecological problems in South Wales and Minamata (Yamada) and (2)Post-industrial societies and literature in the Oceania nation-states. (1) Yamada examined how reportage and first-person narratives were drawn on for representing the victims of environmental pollution. (2) Kosugi revealed that the Oceanian people's reactions to the nuclear tests were inscribed not only in their folktale but also Witi Ihimaera's novels about whales.
