| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
To rectify this gap of empirically-grounded materials and methods for the teaching of academic spoken negotiation in the third year our discourse analysis of Negotiation Phases; Conversation Analysis of Relationship Developmen and Conversation Analysis of Identity and Face Management; and Emotional Expression, decisions were made about teaching materials from our data and we designed tasks. We collected data on students that have used in the piloted materials in the Japan University English Model United Nations hosted by Kobe University of Foreign Studies - June, 2016; the National Model United Nations hosted by Kobe City University of Foreign Studies - November, 2016; Tsukuba Model United Nations, December 2016; and The National Model United Nations in March, 2017.

Reason
We are on schedule, using our discourse analysis data from 4 Model United Nations conferences and classrooms preparing for Model United Nations showing verbal and nonverbal behavior in speaking and listening to make materials and begin to pilot them

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
We will use our 2017 funding primarily for improving our teaching materials from our data. With available funding we will begin to continue to collect data on students that have used the piloted materials in the Japan University English Model United Nations hosted by Kobe University of Foreign Studies - June, 2017; the National Model United Nations in Canada - November, 2016; Tsukuba Model United Nations, December 2017; and The National Model United Nations, New York, 2018. We will also attend international conferences to share our research.

Our university hosted National Model United Nations Japan, the international conference so time was spent in-country with preparations and research.
