Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) became effective in 1995. The agreement aims to ensure that each nation’s standards do not create non-tariff barriers to trade, and strongly recommends WTO members to base their measures on international standards. This study tries to analyze American trade policy history from a new perspective of "standardization." The United States began to recognize an importance of dealing with standardization as one of trade policies in the 1960s in order to expand overseas market. Since then, the U.S. has increasingly endeavored to strengthen the presence in organizations like International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
