Outline of Annual Research Achievements

The research was focussing on the question if humanitarian help is an enlightened self-interest of companies or if they follow a strong control embedded in modern society. Two approaches can be found: patronage (German: Maezenatentum, soft criteria) and sponsorship (hard criteria). Depending on the company, both approaches were applied. The research was furthermore focussing on difficulties on the side of the beneficiaries which not always could accept donations for various reasons. Some first criteria were developed to match the need of companies and the beneficiaries in the ethical context of society. A crucial element is that companies are in competition to each other and they have to develp their own philosphy related to their business purpose if they want to engage in humanitarian help. This includes making staff successful and creating a high quality of life for the socity where the company is doing its business. The results were presented in an public event on 7th of October 2015 with Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Natur- und Voelkerkunde Ostasiens (OAG) in Tokyo:

The discussion gave valuable inputs for the final work on this research.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

The people I could interview were very co-operative. The public event organized in co-operation with the OAG (Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Natur- und Voelkerkunde Ostasiens) gave me many possibilities of public and positive critical feedback.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

I want to summarize the thoughts and write a final report. I will distribute the text to those people who were interview-partners. Furthermore, I will ask journals to publish my text.

Causes of Carryover

I am planning a trip to Europe for the Fiscal Year 2016 17 to re-confirm the results being achieved until now. Due to that I "saved" part of the money for realizing this plan.

Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget

I expect to travel to Europe during the fiscal year. I want to cover the cost for flight (economy class) and accommodation.
