Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study compared how to decide the employee’s ranks and how the employees move between the ranks in Asia countries, especially in Japan, China, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
Regarding former aspect, the found fact is that the ranking system is based on skill level in general. Though the factors of work is taken into consideration, the emphasis is placed on academic background and individual experience. However, the performance management is strengthened in recent years. Regarding the latter aspect, it is observed that there are two types. In the case of Japan and South Korea, the influence of educational background is weak and the internal promotion dominates, while female worker's promotion opportunities are limited. In other countries, the effect of educational background is strong and there are many mid-career recruitment, while female worker's promotion opportunities are relatively high.
