Outline of Final Research Achievements

Using the several educational journals and conference records, this research examines the relationship between early childhood education and family. A discourse analysis showed that Kindergarten teachers regarded kindergartens not as schools, but family-like facilities. Therefore, kindergartens have been a part of the welfare system since ‘Reichsschulkonferenz’ in 1921. Although German school systems were targeted by Nazis, Garman Kindergartens and families were admired during the Nazi era.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

現在、幼児教育改革がグローバルに展開してきており、大多数の国々で幼児教育は学校教育体系の基礎をなすものとして位置付けられるようになってきている。しかし、幼稚園発祥のドイツにおいては、連邦レベルでは未だ福祉領域に位置付けられている。本研究では、この理由が20世紀初頭にまで遡るものであることとその論理が家庭的であることの意義と密接に結びついていることを明らかにするものである。さらに、こういった幼児教育施設が家庭的であることの主張が、ドイツにおいては、ナチス体制との親和性も持つことになったこと、それを推進した論理が母性の論理であることを明らかにした点に本研究の学術的意義があると考えている。
