Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The research project examines the emphasis that recent Japanese education policy has placed on subjectivity as a means toward improving the attitude to work and occupation, putting it in the historical context of comparable trends in 20th century Western pedagogy. New Education, whose central tenet lay in benefiting society through a child-centered and interest-centered approach to instruction, was not adopted wholesale. The research project argues that a fuller appreciation of the adoption process can shed new light on today’s school-to-work transition problem.
