Outline of Final Research Achievements |
There are more than 300 inhabited remote islands in Japan, where both school education and medical care are indispensable to the infrastructure. However, properly recruiting and stationing school teachers and medical doctors there is of extreme difficulty. In addition, opportunities for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to maintain, develop and enhance their professional expertise are very restricted by the situations and environment of the islands, budget, available facilities, etc. Therefore, it is an urgent matter for both the national government and local authorities to take into consideration the features of their work and to build appropriate action plans for the professional issues relating to teachers and doctors on remote islands.
