Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

戦後70余年が経過しているが、我が国における先の大戦の総括はいまだ十分になされているとはいえない。
こうしたなか、敗戦と帝国の解体によって行き場を失った残留日本兵とその家族たちの小さな歴史を明らかにすることには、先の大戦、戦後日本とは何だったのかを議論していく際の視点と材料を提供するという意義があると考えられる。
帝国が折りたたまれていく過程で、その周縁を生きた彼らの歴史的経験は、人口減少によって縮小していく日本社会のなかで生きる私たちにとっての関心事であり続けるだろう。
