Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Surface of solid earth is covered by several plates, of which relative motion causes crustal movement such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Precise identification of the source of sediments on the plates will help to decipher the history of the plate motion. Although it has been well known that treating isotope ratios of heavy elements such as lead as the fingerprints is effective in identification of sediment sources, the reference data has been unfulfilled. In this study I consolidated the basic isotopic data to infer the history of the Philippine sea plate motion, which causes large earthquakes called "To-nankai earthquakes" by revealing spatiotemporal variations of isotope ratio of heavy elements in fine sediments discharged from Japan islands and their causal factors
