Research Abstract |
The researchers illustrated the deep geologic profiles of the Cenozoic sedimentary basins in the Kanto, Niigata, Nobi, Osaka, San-in districts etc. Cartoons on the process of sedimentation and subsidence were demonstrated in some regions. The Neogene-Quaternary basins of the Kanto and San-in districts were analyzed by VBD (Virtual Basement Displacement) method. VBD method was developed from finite element method in order to get the optimum solution of the subsiding process on the basis of the thickness change of strata. Formation process of the Neogene cauldrons caused by ascending magma reservoirs were simulated by finite element analyses. Moreover, the Neogene-Quaternary sedimentary basin of the Kanto district was analyzed by three-dimensional VBD method.
