Outline of Annual Research Achievements

ジグザグエッジ型GNRの合成法の確立とその基礎物性探索が世界的に望まれている。そこで本提案では、我々が開発した2ゾーン型ラジカル重合化学気相成長法(Adv. Mater., 26, 4134 2014)を用い、分子設計した原料芳香族分子を、高い反応性を持つ気固界面で重合・脱水素縮環することにより、従来困難であった、エッジ構造と分子幅を制御した「ジグザグエッジ型グラフェンナノリボン」の合成法を世界に先駆けて開発し、未知の基礎物性の探索を目指す。今年度は、ジグザグエッジ型GNRの表面合成に必要な前駆体分子の有機合成を行った。この前駆体はU字型の剛直なポリフェニレンからなる骨格を持ち、前駆体高分子の形成に必要なラジカル中間体を発生させるために、両末端にハロゲン原子を持つ。我々が開発した2ゾーン化学気相成長法を用い、シグザグ型GNRの合成の実験を行った。U字型前駆体分子を低真空中で気化させ、高温に加熱した清浄化石英表面に接触させて原料分子のラジカルを発生させ(ラジカル発生帯)、このラジカル種を温度制御した単結晶金属基板上に供給しラジカル重合反応及び脱水素縮環反応を起こさせ(表面重合帯)、GNRの合成を行う原理である。その結果、250℃の加熱ではU字型前駆体がラジカル重合しスプリング型に結合した高分子が得られることを走査トンネル顕微鏡(STM)測定にて確認した。更に400℃で加熱を行ったところ、一部が脱水素縮環しGNR構造が得られることが同じくSTM測定によって判明した。この構造の高分解能測定やSTSによる電子状態測定を行った。
