Outline of Annual Research Achievements

これまで我々は、微惑星、火星、氷衛星といった太陽系の水惑星たちに対して、探査観測データの解析、実験結果を組み込んだ理論モデルを通じて、その水環境や生命利用可能エネルギーの定量化を行ってきた。本研究では、統合化した知見を複数の論文群に留めるだけではなく、これらを系統だった学問体系として一つの書籍にまとめあげ、和文・英文の教科書とすることを目的とする。これによって、今後数十年に渡り発展するであろう「宇宙における生命」に関する新しい学術分野 ― 水惑星学の礎を構築する。現在、和文・英文ともに「宇宙における生命」を、化学・地質学・物理学に基づき体系的に扱った教科書は存在しない。本申請で目指すのは、惑星天文学から地質学、分子化学、生命圏科学にまたがるメンバーたちによる、基礎方程式から始まる「宇宙における生命」に関する教科書の作成、およびそのための学問の体系化である。これにより、この分野を目指す次世代研究者の育成だけでなく、周辺分野の研究者たちに本学術分野へ新規参入を促す。そのための総括班会議、および報告会を開催した。総括班会議は、総括班メンバーを集めて合宿形式で行うことで効果を最大化する。合宿では、理論体系の骨組みを議論し、まとめ上げた。全体会議では、各国の火星、氷衛星、小惑星の探査に関わる海外メンバーを呼び、大規模な国際会議を開いた。これによって、成果を海外に発信するだけでなく、領域の総まとめとしても将来の探査計画へつなげることができた。
