Outline of Research at the Start

「水」は、人類にとって必須である。今後の人類の持続的発展および安全・安心のためには、水と調和しながら最大限機能を発揮する材料を作りだすことは喫緊の課題である。
本領域においては、「材料の科学」と「水の基礎科学」を融合させることにより、環境や生体と調和して、バイオ・電子・環境機能などを発揮する新しい材料「水圏機能材料」を創りだす。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

The research project conducted overall management to achieve the research objectives in this research area. To manage the research area, the research project planned events and released research results. We supported researchers in both planned research and publicly researches to establish a suitable cooperative and collaborative research system. Management meetings for the research project were held 57 times. We reviewed the status of the area management and collaborative research and prepared for events. Furthermore, we released some information about "Aquatic Functional Materials" to the world community through public symposiums, industry-academia collaboration forums, newsletters, publication general chemistry magazine in "Gendai Kagaku" (Modern Chemistry), and our website.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究領域は「材料科学」と「水の基礎科学」の融合とそれによる材料創製に焦点をあて、材料と水の新学理を創成した。「水」の存在下において環境と調和・相互作用しながら機能を発揮する材料を「水圏機能材料」と定義し、「水」と「材料」の相互作用を分子レベル・ナノ集合レベルでとらえ、水と物質の構造・機能相関の基礎学理を確立し、材料科学に展開する「水圏機能材料構築学」へ展開した。これらを、論文発表、公開シンポジウムでの成果発表や一般化学誌「現代化学」での成果掲載により、水が存在する環境において機能する材料の設計・構築の方法論・学理を示すことができ、広く社会にこれらの材料の重要性を認識してもらうことができた。
