Outline of Research at the Start

本領域では、スピルオーバーにより生成した活性水素種を使いこなすための制御因子を正しく理解し、またその画期的な活用法を提案する。さらに、ポテンシャル障壁を透過して化学反応が進行する『量子トンネル効果』の関与を検証し、従来の速度論的・熱力学的概念を覆す新たな反応制御のパラダイムとして利用するための学理(表面水素工学)構築を目指す。目的達成のため、材料化学、触媒化学、電気化学、表面科学、理論計算分野を索引する次世代が、新材料合成、新機能発現、新原理の創出をターゲットに連携する。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose of this project is to understand the controlling factors for making full use of active hydrogen species generated by spillover, and to propose innovative ways to utilize them. Furthermore, we verified the involvement of "quantum tunneling effect" in which chemical reactions proceed through potential barriers, and established a theory (surface hydrogen engineering).
To achieve this goal, the next generation of leaders in the fields of materials chemistry, catalytic chemistry, electrochemistry, surface science, and theoretical calculations collaborated to target the synthesis of new materials, the expression of new functions, and the creation of new principles.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究で得られた知見は全くの未知であり学術的価値は極めて高く、環境、エネルギーを指向した新しい魅力ある研究分野を創成できる。また、水素スピル―オーバーの利用による新しい材料の開発は、既存プロセスの高効率化・省エネ化・低コスト化を実現する可能性を秘め、先進的なマテリアルサイエンス分野へも多大な波及効果をもたらす。さらに、基礎研究のレベルを各段に押し上げる効果が表れるだけでなく、近い将来実現されうる水素社会のさらにその先を見据えた次世代水素社会のキーテクノロジーとなる。すなわち水素スピルオーバー技術を基盤に、いかに新たなイノベーションを創出するかに関して、重要な指針と共通認識を提供する。
