Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We have established new methods to control a variety of molecules and molecular assemblies that exhibit functions at aquatic environment. The functionalization of these aquatic materials was explored in view of precise control of molecular alignment through the interactions with water molecules. Based on the self-assembly of liquid-crystalline molecules and colloidal liquid crystals as well as the interfacial synthesis, nanostructured water treatment membranes exhibiting selective transport and separation, bio-functional aquatic liquid-crystalline sensors, and mechano- and electro-functional aquatic hybrid materials have been developed. New science about the utilization of interactions between water and materials is originated based on the research of these materials.
