Outline of Research at the Start

本研究課題は、生物の持つ高感度で選択的な機能を、強靭性・安定性をもつ人工材料で実現することに焦点をあて、水と無機・有機半導体材料の界面接続（つなぐ）により、水圏電子・イオン機能材料を創製するための基礎学理の確立を目指す。
田中求の専門とする半導体材料と生体融合材料による融合電子材料を核に、中畑（研究分担者）の分子認識機能を有する生物着想材料を組み合わせ、水圏の有害イオンを超高効率で捕捉して環境浄化する機能を有する水圏電子・イオン機能材料や、水圏の微小な環境変化を超高感度で検知し電視信号として発信する、機能材料を設計・創製する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究課題は、田中求（研究代表者）の専門である界面制御技術と中畑（研究分担者）が得意とする生物着想型高分子材料を融合させて、材料と水圏環境の界面水和構造を制御することで「水圏で作動する電子・イオン機能材料」の創製およびそのための基礎学理の確立を目的としている。
令和4年度の研究実施に当たっては、前年度までの成果をさらに大きく発展展開すべく、以下のような計画に沿って研究を推進した。
まず、生体着想材料として分子設計したファイトケラチン着想材料については、前年度に行った共通機器であるQCM-Dを用いた界面水和構造変化に伴う界面の粘弾性変化を精密計測や、限外ろ過を用いたイオン認識機能の精密定量といった水圏イオン機能の定量データをもとに、機能分子設計を最適化し、これを自己組織化制御を駆使して材料・水界面に超高集積化することで、水圏環境を実際に浄化するリアクターなど、実用化へ向けた最適化に成功、その成果を論文として発表した。また、生体着想型材料が発揮する水圏イオン機能を電子信号として検出するという取り組みについては、これらの分子をデバイス表面に高密度で転写し、有害重金属イオンを窒化ガリウムの2次元電子ガス内の電荷移動度の変調として高感度で検出することに成功した。
共通機器であるQCM-Dについては、前年度までは領域メンバーが作製したサンプルを郵送してもらい、これを京都大学で委託計測してきたが、今年度はユーザーが実際にサンプルを持ち込んで計測できるよう支援していくことを計画している。

Reason

概要に述べたように、田中求（研究代表者）は中畑（研究分担者）と根幹となる分子認識材料や独自の計測技術に関するオリジナル論文を精力的に発表するだけにとどまらず、水界面の物理学という広い視点から細胞の変形や運動を説き起こした国際共著の総説を発表するなど、水圏界面の学理を広く世界に発信している。
例としては、公募班・宮田（金沢大）が得意とする周波数変調AFMを使って重金属イオン認識材料の水和構造の微小な変化を計測した班間共同研究論文（Nanoscale Adv.の招待論文がBack Coverに選出）や、ハイデルベルク大やゲッチンゲン大学（ドイツ）との共同研究で、イオン捕捉による水和構造変化が細胞モデルの接着・濡れを変調する事を実験と理論から示した国際共同研究論文（Soft Matter誌のフロントカバーに選出）などが挙げられる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

令和5年度の研究実施に当たっては、前年度までの成果をさらに大きく発展展開すべく、以下のような計画に沿って研究を推進する。
まず、生体着想材料として分子設計したファイトケラチン着想材料については、重金属イオンの選択認識に加え、今年度は有害アニオン（ヒ素）の選択的認識機能の評価を行う。また、前年度に論文として発表したQCM-Dや周波数変調AFMを用いた界面水和構造変 化の精密計測に基づき最適化した、実用化を現実的に見据えた水圏環境浄化するデバイスを作製し、その成果を論文として発表する。また、上記の生体着想型材料の水圏イオン機能を窒化ガリウムデバイス表面に集積化し、有害イオン捕捉を2次元電子ガス層内の電荷移動度の変調として検出できたので、今年度はこれを論文化するだけでなく、さらに有害アニオン（ヒ素）の検出に応用することを目指す。
A01-1加藤らとの共同研究は、液晶超分子膜の選択的イオン輸送のキネティクスを窒化ガリウムデバイスを用いて計測した成果を論文として発表するとともに、新たな分子設計に基づく材料の評価にもこの手法を活用する。前年度にA01-2辻らとスタートさせた有機半導体分子層の欠陥を減らす取り組みについては、液晶的な性質を付与した有機半導体分子 を並進拡散・回転拡散の自由度が大きな水表面で高秩序に配列させ、これを固体基板へと転写するプロセスを確立したので、今年度これらの複合デバイスとしての機能評価を行う。A03-3高島らとの選択的分子選択機能を有するメカノバイオ材料については、今年度前半に応答部位の最適化を行い、幹細胞を用いたProof of Conceptを今年度中に得ることを目指す。
共通機器であるQCM-Dについては、前年度からユーザーが実際にサンプルを持ち込んで計測できる体制をとっており、公募班・児島や公募班・芹澤との研究が進行中である。
